2/11/01 - As part of Scout Sunday, Troop 104 presented the colors at the Scotch Plains Baptist Church service and set up a working campsite display for all the attendees. Mr. Bowser, an assistant scout master at Troop 104, received an award at the beginning of the service in recognition of his 20 + years as a leader in Boy Scouts. You can see a picture from the event in the Members' Section.
1/27/01 - Troop 104 participated in the Klondike Derby today, where we pulled a 90 lb. sled around to 5 different stations spread out in the Watchung Reservation. At each station, there is a different task to complete, such as fire building or orienteering, and the team receives points for how well they performed. Time is also a factor in determining the winner. Troop 104 took a respectable third place.
1/03101 - Jeremy White received his Eagle Scout rank at this special court of honor. Special guests included Mayor Marks and Mr. Abadir, a chemistry teacher at SPFHS, as well as numerous relatives of Jeremy. A celebratory day that he more than earned by his hard work.
12/09/00 - Spent a day at the New York Planetarium and the adjoining Museum of Natural History. Plenty of interactive things to do and exhibits to see (or critique). Well worth the walk in the biting wind from the parking lot to the planetarium.
11/18/00 - The troop headed over to Winnebago for an exciting weekend. The scouts were could only cook their meals over ground fires that they built. They tell me that it was a general success and that all made it back alive and famished.
9/30/00 - The troop went on a trip to Jockey Hollow,
which was the winter camp of Washington's Army during the American
Revolution. The troop, after setting up camp at the site, went on the
hike to the visitor's center, where information could be obtained about the
historical site. The troop also visited a replica of a winter cabin,
similar to the ones that the soldiers inhabited.
